| Our Curriculum Parents who choose Trinity Episcopal Day School are looking for a place where their child will be happy and be exposed to a rich learning environment. Our curriculum is built around these goals.
Lesson Plans Teachers in every classroom prepare individualized lesson plans for their specific groups. Each plan centers on a specific theme and provides a detailed description of the various activities chosen to support the theme. Those supporting activities include the child's participation in independent, small group, and whole group activities across a wide range of instructional opportunities including blocks, dramatic play, games/manipulatives, art, library/reading, discovery, math, Spanish, sand/water play, music, movement, and outdoor activities. For older children, opportunities expand to include cooking, social studies, science and computers. Lesson plans are approved by the school director and distributed bimonthly to families. A Typical Day Children engage in morning activities that include individual play in indoor learning centers, a breakfast snack, group time for reading or music, and outdoor activities. At midday, children have a family-style hot lunch followed by a rest period. Afternoon activities include games, stories, music, social interaction, an afternoon snack and another period of outside play. Teachers of infants and toddlers provide daily reports of each child's activity as one way of communicating frequently with parents.

| Weekly or Special Events For older children, our downtown location affords excellent opportunities for field trips to interesting sights and sounds in Tulsa's central business district such as Central Library, the Bank of Oklahoma tower, and the Tulsa Fire Department. Throughout the year, trips are planned to visit the Performing Arts Center, museums, parks, and other events of interest to the children. For the benefit of both our younger and older children, TEDS on occasion arranges for school appearances by artists, musicians, storytellers, dentists, veterinarians and much more. We've even had visits from sheep and dairy cows!
Extracurricular exercise activities are offered throughout the year as appropriate for various age groups. These activities include Tumble Bus, dance, and swimming. These activities are provided on a fee-basis. Parent Consultations At the beginning of each school year, teachers conduct introductory visits to the families whose children will be starting the new school year in their classroom. At this meeting, families receive a packet of room-specific information including teacher bios, the daily room schedule, and developmental tips for the age group of the room. In addition, the home visit packets provide families with information about school policies, PTA involvement, and extracurricular activity options. Most important, the home visit gives each family an opportunity for an in-depth conversation with their child's new teachers, and allows everyone -- including the child -- to get to know each other better before school begins.
Throughout the school year, teachers compile portfolio records on each child. Portfolios contain notes about the child's developmental milestones, photographs, artwork and other anecdotal observations. Teachers discuss portfolios with parents at the semiannual parent-teacher conferences. The portfolios are cumulative in that they travel from one room to the next as a child matriculates through TEDS, allowing each teacher to add to the collected observations. At the completion of a child's preschool years at TEDS, the portfolio is given to the parent to keep. | | Chapel Every week during the regular school year, children age 3-1/2 and older are welcome to attend chapel conducted by Trinity Episcopal Church clergy, usually our school chaplain, The Rev. Kristi Maulden. A child's chapel attendance is never mandatory; rather it is at the discretion of the child's parent or guardian. Click here to read more about TEDS Chapel.
How We Interact with Parents Trinity Episcopal Day School represents a "family school" model in which parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the school lives of their children. We invite parents to share their interests and skills with Trinity Episcopal Day School children as visitors and volunteers. TEDS has an active Parent Teacher Association that meets regularly to plan fundraisers, social events, and enrichment activities for both families and faculty. Events such as the BOOgaloo Halloween carnival, Breakfast with Santa, the Spring Fling Auction, and the Teachers' Elves Day are cherished school traditions.
Parent education is also a part of the TEDS approach. In a given year, our school will host guest speakers, hold an educational Book Fair, and hold parenting enrichment seminars.
Parent communication is strong, with important information communicated both by email and the monthly school newsletter, which offers parents calendars of upcoming activities, classroom reports, PTA news, and child development and parenting tips. | |
